Some casinos such as MGM and the Venetian have enough to entertain kids for an entire morning or afternoon. I just found a good blog called "Beyond the Casinos" at the LA Times web site
http://travelqa.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/10/beyond-the-casinos-in-las-vegas/#comment-52975Las Vegas for many of us is inexpensive, exciting, warm, and a relatively short drive away.
While some will argue that Las Vegas is not for kids, you cannot deny that places like M&M World, Circus Circus, Excalibur's Arcade, Stratosphere's rooftop amusement park, Coke World, Madam Tussaud's, Mandalay Bay's Aquarium, MGM's Rainforest Cafe and even New York New York's roller coaster are not geared towards attracting families and kids.
I have been publicly criticized for even creating this web site, but as long as my kids love Las Vegas and as long as hotels keep welcoming us and our money, we'll keep returning.
The big attraction for my family is the swimming pools, which offer the same scene as any beach. The children are not interacting with gamblers or watching people play tables. They are innocently playing by a pool, visiting kids arcades, enjoying the bright lights and going to the kid-friendly shows.
There are literally hundreds of shows in Las Vegas, and some are focused towards kids:-
Tournament of the Kings at Excalibur is an excellent dinner show for kids and adults, but I know there are also magic shows and animal performances that are suitable for all ages. Go to http://www.accessvegas.com/las-vegas-shows.htm for more information about what is playing now. Be sure to check first if the show is suitable for children. Las minute discounted shows can be booked at spots along the Strip. A popular spot is near the Coke World entrance.
(Pictured above) Children love the on-the-hour overhead show every evening at Fremont Street. Parking is easy and free. Just get your ticket validated in a casino. There are often other music shows playing in the central part of the mall as well as ongoing Mardi Gras, shops and stalls.
I highly recommend this while visiting Las Vegas. Part of the older part of Las Vegas at the far north end, a $70 million dollar project that covers the entire mall.
Follow this link for a printable map of the Las Vegas monorail.
Adults $8. Children $7. The museum features hands-on exhibits in the arts, sciences, nature, music and humanities; a Traveling Exhibition Gallery; an Early Childhood Pavilion and an eight-story Science Tower in 22,000 square feet of exhibit space.

Between Freemont Street and the Strip, near the freeway. Lots of designer outlet shops with clothes at highly reduced prices.

Located about one hour east of Las Vegas, this is an interesting site where many blockbuster movies have been set, such as Transformers and National Treasure.
